Drive-in theaters prepare for opening

Those looking for a bigger screen than the living room television have reason for excitement.

The return to the movies is upon us — the drive-in movies, specifically. Hey, it’s the warm weather season and that’s the preferred venue, anyway.

Chilton Twilight Drive-In Theater will open its season on Friday with a twin bill of Sonic The Hedgehog and Jumanji: The Next Level. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. with the first film starting about 8:30 p.m.

Field of Scenes Drive-In Movie Theatre in Freedom will open its season on May 29. Its opening film selections are yet to be announced. Shawano’s Moonlight Outdoor Theater expects a Monday, May 18 opening night.

The Chilton drive-in will run the double feature on Saturday, and again on May 20-24 and May 27-28. There are no reservations or advance ticket sales.

Those heading out can anticipate rules to ensure safety as pandemic concerns continue.

“We are putting on triple the staff to keep everyone safe,” the Chilton theater wrote on its Facebook page.

New rules? No problem.

At long last, there’s something to do outside of our homes and they know there’s demand.

“There will only be a handful of theaters open in the state,” they wrote. “We expect to be busy.”
