Fox Valley readies for some Fat Tuesday merriment

Break out the beads. We don’t party on just any Tuesday.

Fat Tuesday, the traditional day of celebration prior to entering the Lenten season, is two days away and the Fox Cities will offer a variety of options for those hoping to partake.

Teens are invited to the Appleton Public Library for mask making at 4:30 p.m. All of the materials are provided from gemstones and glitter to feathers and paint.

Cajun cooking isn’t found just anywhere in this neck of the woods. For those who crave those flavors, there’s no better time.

Wilder’s Bistro, located on S. Oneida St. in Appleton, will discount the Cajun specialties on its dinner menu in celebration of Fat Tuesday.

Spats will serve a special Fat Tuesday menu from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. All the favorite flavors of Louisiana will be waiting including gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, Bourbon Street shrimp, catfish, gator and beignets. Wash it down with a hurricane or an Abita beer.

OB’s Brau Haus will serve a Cajun menu from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. to include gumbo, jambalaya, crab cakes and more. 

Appleton’s Melting Pot will serve a Mardi Gras-themed three-course meal.

Gameday Sports Bar in Appleton will celebrate Fat Tuesday with shrimp po boys, jambalaya and drink specials. They’ll also offer free psychic readings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Neenah’s Ground Round will serve a Mardi Gras themed burger and jambalaya. They’ll have drink specials and hand out beads and masks.

Neimuth’s Southside Market will have heat-and-eat gumbo and jambalaya ready for the celebration.

It’s a day just as renowned for its baked goods and our local bakeries will be ready for the celebrations.

Manderfield’s will serve Paczki and king cakes.

VandeWalle’s Candies will have Paczki on Tuesday made by Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe.

Appleton’s Breadsmith locations will have king cakes.

Hill Top Bakery in Kaukauna will serve up king cakes and Paczki and will have Fox 11 on hand on Tuesday morning for segments on Good Day Wisconsin.

Simple Simon Bakery on Wisconsin Avenue in Appleton has been pumping out the king cakes. They’ll have 10 different flavors of Paczki for Fat Tuesday as well as a little treat for the ears. Danny from Copper Box will be playing the accordion from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

After the eating and drinking is complete, continue with the being merry. 

The Fox Cities have a few options for live music on Tuesday.

Kyle Cox will play at the Stone Arch Brewpub at 6 p.m.

Motherfolk will play at 8 p.m. at The Bent Keg in Appleton.

Deja Vu Martini Lounge will have its live band karaoke at 8 p.m.
