This week in Fox Valley history:

A pioneer of electronic music arrived in Appleton on Feb. 1, 1971 to provide the audience with a sound they never experienced before. Gershon Kinglsey’s first Moog quartet performed at Lawrence Memorial Chapel.

Days prior, an influential television and radio arrived in Appleton. Art Linkletter was in town on Jan. 26, 1971. He met with students and later addressed drug abuse prevention with parents at the Appleton East High School gym.

On Jan 26, 1975, one-time teen idol Bobby Vee played the Country Aire on Spencer Street.

Other big-name entertainment was a short drive away that week. On Jan 30, 1975, Gordon Lightfoot played the Brown County Arena. Tickets ranged from $4 to $6 apiece. Joan Rivers did two shows nightly from Jan. 27 through Feb. 1 at the Carlton Inn in Two Rivers.

This week in weather:

As far as winter goes, there’s no expecting anything better than we’ll have this week. High temperatures will hover around the freezing point ranging from 31 to 34 degrees during the week. There’s a slight chance of precipitation on Monday night into Tuesday and again on Saturday.

Things to do this week:

If you’re an Appleton resident, Thursday provides a great opportunity to ensure you’ll make an informed vote. A candidates forum for those running for mayor of Appleton will be held at 6:30 p.m.on Thursday at the Appleton Public Library.

Procrastinators, it’s time to get things in gear. This is the last week to catch This is Christmas: Original Concept Art of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The exhibitions at the Trout Museum of Art close on Feb. 2.

Make a point to take in some live music this week. Elliott Blaufuss and Davis Corley will perform at Rhythms and Brews on Wednesday night at Riverview Gardens. Those looking for something a little louder can head to Waverly Beach on Saturday. The Glam Band and Totally Neon will perform as part of Big Hair Bash 2020.

Those who want to take in a game have a couple of options. The Wisconsin Herd, who’ve been dominating the NBA G League, return to Oshkosh on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game against the College Park Skyhawks. Hockey fans can head north on Friday as the Green Bay Gamblers take on Fargo at 7 p.m.
