Appleton’s holiday spirit flipped on like a switch as Saturday’s sun began to set.
Ready or not, the Christmas season is here.
The community arrived to color and fun at Houdini Plaza during Light Up Appleton. The event, sponsored by the Trout Museum of Art, brought music and entertainment, food and a variety of family holiday activities beneath the glow of Christmas lights.
Families enjoyed horse-drawn wagon rides. Kids could decorate cookies and write a letter to Santa.
The event encouraged goodwill with giving trees, through which visitors could make donations to organizations including Harbor House, Make-A-Wish, Pillars and the Salvation Army.
Student musicians provided festive music from the stage.
It was just the start of the holiday fun in Downtown Appleton — a warm-up of sorts in the cold Wisconsin weather.
The main event arrives Tuesday with the 49th Annual Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade, which begins at 7 p.m.
