Craft beer fans will want to lace up their walking shoes on Sept. 14.
Bring your thirst and some curiosity to Downtown Appleton.
The Downtown Appleton Craft Beer Walk will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and in keeping with the season, establishments will serve an array of fall and winter styles for sampling. It’s a day to try new beers — and try downtown establishments you might not have visited before.
Aficionados will have five different walk options to choose from.
The standard $20 ticket will allow participants to choose from one of three geographically organized walks. There’s a walk that includes the east end and riverfront, a midtown walk and a west end walk.
Each of the walks will include seven stops. Participants receive a pint glass with which they can sample the selected offerings.
For $30, beer walkers can take the VIP route. Participants will be able to stop at the seven venues of their choice regardless of location. VIPs also receive special offers such as a third beer tasting, food and appetizer specials or entries into a drawing for a prize basket.
The upcoming beer walk has a special, additional tier for the most enthusiastic of craft beer lovers.
For $40, take the Firkin Walk.
A firkin is a small barrel of beer; about a quarter of the typical barrel. It’s a cast ale — not filtered, clarified, pasteurized or force carbonated. Each is one of a kind.
Those who purchase the Firkin Walk will receive all of the benefits of the VIP plus samples from the firkins.
They’ll include an Oreo/Peanut Butter Milk Stout, “Plummeting Mildy” that is aged on plum puree, and a Vanilla Pumpkin beer.
Lynn Schemm, marketing director for Appleton Downtown Inc., said the firkin event offers local and regional breweries with an opportunity to get creative.
For walkers, it’s an opportunity to taste test, learn more about craft beers and explore Appleton’s downtown, she said.
Tickets can be purchased at participating establishments or online at beerwalkwi.com.
There are a limited number of tickets for each walk, though day-of sales will be allowed if tickets remain.
